5 ways to strengthen your relationship by Shahzeen Shivdasani
People dream about finding their other half. They list qualities that they wish to find in a person and have ideals of how the relationship will go. The truth? No one is perfect and any successful relationship requires a ton of work. Take a look at five ways by which you can strengthen your bond and make sure it lasts.
Communication that works! We all may think we communicate well with our partners but do we understand what it entails? It is not just sharing your day-to-day stories or listing your needs and wants. Yes, that is a part of it, but it is also about creating a safe space for your partner to feel heard so they can be vulnerable with you and truly honest. Encouraging honesty in its truest form and creating a non-judgmental environment is key!
Maintaining intimacy at all costs
Intimacy can fly out the window the second you stop feeling like you have to try. You always do. Do not get too comfortable in relationships. Whether it is planning a date night, doing an activity together or simply having a deep conversation. You need to ensure that physical, emotional and mental intimacy are nurtured. If you feel like one aspect is taking a back seat, plan something to encourage it.
Help each other grow
Support each other’s dreams and ambitions. Give your significant other the space to grow as a person and celebrate each other’s achievements. By growing individually, both partners will have new perspectives to bring to the equation. This aids in providing a sense of shared admiration for one another.

Forgiveness and letting go
All relationships will have their fair share of ups and downs. It is necessary to ensure that conflicts are dealt with and that neither party is harboring resentment towards one another. Choose to forgive each other and move on. Find ways to resolve any lingering feelings by discussing them. Do not let negativity brew as that will create unmovable roadblocks.
Meeting each other halfway
There is no room for growth with someone if you expect things to only your way! Every partnership requires meeting each other halfway. Do not do anything you’re not comfortable with. However, when you can’t see eye to eye, find a way to come to a compromise that suits the two of you. It will require effort from both ends. This fosters a relationship that can progress.
We all want rainbows and butterflies, but the truth is, it requires a lot of patience, understanding, compromise and prioritizing the well-being of your relationship at all costs. If the two of you can do this then your relationship will remain strong and stand the test of time.
To not take each other for granted
At the end of the day, make sure to not take each other for granted because anything worth having has always required the word, effort.
